I'm sure most of you have noticed those annoying ads that I have on this blog, which I originally put up in hopes that I would earn a huge amount of money from my blog (you know, like Dooce and Pioneer Woman), but soon discovered that it was just not that easy.
I have been paid $111.78 from the ads on this blog so far (paid to me in January of 2011). Whenever I earn more than $100, I will get another check.
So... I am slowly approaching that $100 mark once again (slowly, very slowly). And I was thinking that when I get this money, I would spend it on something totally frivolous. I figured it would be good practice for me in learning how to spend more frivolously (and, yes, this is something I do think I need help with... as per my Great Perhaps, and not giving undue importance to money by hoarding it).
Here are some frivolous things I was thinking of:
1) A really expensive haircut at a la-dee-dah salon.
2) A new winter coat. (Yes, somehow, to me, this is frivolous.)
3) Lots and lots of Cheese Fries from the Outback Steakhouse.
4) 100 lottery tickets.
5) A hand chair.
Okay. These ideas kind of suck. Can anyone help me out with some better ideas?

4 comments:
1. only get this if you're going to dramatically change your style/color.
2. yes, but I agree this might not actually be frivolous.
3. I would totally get food, but probably better food, like Truffle Fries at BLVD in Minnetonka.
4. No. I draw the line at using good money to gamble.
5. I have no idea what a "hand chair" is.
I like to waste money on: electronics (like a Kindle or iPod), pedicures, gourmet food/restaurants.
Other decadent things: Get a bra fitting at Nordstrom or Allure and buy a spendy, but oh-so awesome bra.
Buy new makeup
Get a massage
Buy cute panties at VS.
Instead of cheese fries at Outback or even better fries, go someplace nice for a $100 meal with Vern. A good place that's not too fancy and not a chain with great food is Al Vento in Minneapolis. Do not get pizza. Make a pact to try the pricey pasta and entrees, like something braised. Get red wine and dessert. Dress up a little.
How about donating half, so if you spend the other half in some crazy way it stills feels good? Or you could do what I would do and go to a thrift store and get a bunch of frivolous surprises, including a "new" winter coat. I love finding stuff that I had no idea I "needed" at thrift stores. I don't know if this is frivolous enough. You can tell I don't know about spending frivolously either:0)
Although, a fancy date night sounds fun.
I second the first two comments; and I personally don't think you should donate it. This is a rare occasion for you and I think you deserve it all to yourself! You give so much to others in your daily life, and this is your chance to get something back. I second the going to an expensive restaurant and spending it all there. Or a night at a hotel with Vern. A nice bra and panties set would be nice, too. Looking forward to hearing what you decide, Goofy Mama!
